One of the reasons to grow small plants in a terrarium is to supply growing conditions with higher humidity than can be found in most homes. Completely closed terrariums retain high levels of moisture and rarely need watering, but there is also increased risk of plant diseases developing in the damp, stagnant air. A good compromise can be achieved by setting up a terrarium with ventilation to supply air movement and a misting system to supply the needed humidity.

Create holes in the lid of the terrarium for the misting nozzles. If the lid is glass or plastic, make sure the lid is padded to reduce vibrations before drilling the holes. For screen lids, cut holes of the correct size. The size of the holes will depend on the style of misting nozzle you choose
Disassemble the misting nozzles carefully. Only separate the parts of the misting assembly that will connect the nozzles through holes in the lid. Do not unscrew the tip of the nozzle. Misting nozzles are set to release water particles between 50 to 100 microns in size, and touching them can alter the flow rate.
Slide the bulkhead of the misting nozzle assembly through the hole and secure it. Attach a union T-connector to the top of the nozzle. Measure and cut tubing with the utility knife to attach the T-connector and nozzle to the pump.
Reptiles require a humid environment in captivity. If a reptile is housed in conditions that are not humid enough, the animal will constantly lose water when it exhales and through its skin. Reptiles that lose water in this manner can become severely dehydrated. The humidity in their terrarium or enclosure is created and maintained by using a misting system. Although misting systems are available commercially, reptile enthusiasts can make their own with very little equipment.
One of the most important aspects of reptile and amphibian husbandry is the regulation of their biome. Automatic reptile misting systems are excellent for ensuring they are consistently hydrated, on a healthy rain cycle which will overall benefit their health long term. Automatic terrarium misting is a necessity for most reptiles kept in screen cages, such as chameleons. It is very important to know what type of husbandry you are providing to give your herps the healthy life they deserve!
The system can be programmed to mist multiple times per 24-hour cycle, with spray durations ranging from 2 seconds up to 2 minutes. The 1,5 liter (0.40 gallon) reservoir ensures continuous operation for several days without the need for refilling (ideal for vacations!), and the reservoir can be easily replenished without needing to uninstall the entire system.
The Exo Terra Monsoon Solo comes with 1 easy-to-install nozzle, but the system can be extended to accommodate up to 2 nozzles, making it ideal for up to 2 terrariums. (Please note that every additional nozzle will result in less performance from each nozzle installed.) The mist produced by these specially designed nozzles is extremely fine, creating a fog-like effect in the terrarium or greenhouse, and the extra long tubing makes it possible to conceal the unit in a storage area or under the terrarium in a cabinet.
The system can be programmed to mist multiple times per 24-hour cycle, for time periods ranging from one second to two hours. The large 9.5 liter (2.5 gallon) reservoir ensures continuous operation for several days without the need for refilling (ideal for vacations!), and the reservoir can be easily replenished without needing to uninstall the entire system.
The Exo Terra Monsoon RS400 comes with two easy-to-install nozzles, but the system can be extended to accommodate up to 6 nozzles, making it ideal for multiple terrariums.
Starter misting system comes with a default ST-24 timer, but can be controlled by either a repeat cycle timer or the hygrostat. You can select the controller on the right that best suits your needs. To learn more about how each timer works, please visit the timer page
Starter System can silently run 1 nozzle or as many as 10 nozzles. Our misting systems have been applied in a multitude of applications, from patio cooling, reptile, amphibian terrarium/vivarium enclosures, growing shelves with orchids or exotic plants, hobby greenhouses, and even grocery and industrial applications. Major ZOOs, botanical gardens, educational institutions, corporations and individual hobbyists all recognized our dedication to quality and customer service and are using our systems throughout the world.
We do not ship reservoir buckets with our kits. No need to add to the shipping cost for something that can be picked up locally for a few dollars. Our misting systems come with instructions and push in bulkhead fitting to convert any bucket or container into a reservoir. Plastic pails cost from $3-$8 retail depending on size.Customization Options (Select from drop downs on the right)
I found the best and simplest way to get rid of access moisture is to take the lid off for 5-10 minutes at a time, then monitor the cycle for a few days to see if corrected. If you over do it ,add only some water in a mist form from a spray bottle.
The Exo Terra Monsoon SOLO II comes with 1 easy-to-install nozzle, but the system can be extended to accommodate up to 2 nozzles, making it ideal for up to 2 terrariums.
The Exo Terra Monsoon SOLO II is a programmable misting system suitable for all types of terrariums and greenhouses. It helps maintain optimal humidity by generating a fine mist at programmed intervals, the duration and frequency of which can be easily adjusted depending on the type of animal or plant housed. Frequent misting helps stimulate breeding behaviour, and is a necessity when housing live tropical plants such as Bromeliads, orchids, mosses, etc.
Follow this installation procedure to install the Exo Terra Monsoon system on any size of Exo Terra Frog Terrarium. The system comes with 1 easy-to-install nozzle, which should be mounted on the desired side of the terrarium, in the especially provided built-in mounting points.
4. Lead the Monsoon tube towards the back of the terrarium, and click the tube into the 4 clips, provided for this purpose, on the underside of the top frame (3 on the side of the terrarium and one on the back, just next to the self-closing inlet).
Follow this installation procedure to install the Exo Terra Monsoon system on any size of Exo Terra Natural Terrarium. The system comes with 1 easy-to-install nozzle, which should be mounted on either glass side panel of the terrarium as close as possible to the opening front doors.
17. Plug the power adaptor into the wall socket, your Exo Terra Monsoon Programmable Misting system is now ready to use. In order to remove the tubing from the unit, press and hold the blue ring down, while pulling out the tubing. Please note that nozzles can be mounted in multiple terrariums.

Most terrariums are designed with airflow in mind. They have vents on the bottom and a screen lid on top, which allows air to circulate in the enclosure and exit through the top. Because of this, it can be difficult to keep the humidity inside. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.
Misting the enclosure adds water vapor into the air which increases the humidity. After finishing, close the terrarium and wait a few minutes for everything to settle. Watch your hygrometer and you should see the levels increase.
If your frogs require daily misting, you might consider investing in a portable spray bottle. These misters give you more control over the spray, hold more water, and, most importantly, are sprayed by holding down a button rather than repeatedly squeezing a handle.
Yet another way to increase humidity in a terrarium is by adding a waterfall feature. Adding a waterfall not only gives you the option to add more water into the terrarium, but it circulates the water as well.
Foggers are very cool. So are waterfalls! If you adjust the foggers settings appropriately, it the combination might not be too much. A lot of it depends on the terrarium too! How much ventilation there is.
The MistKing Advanced Misting System v4.0 with a 3/8" Backbone is a significantly more powerful system than the starter or ultimate. Unless you're going to exceed 20 nozzles, we do not recommend upgrading to this misting system. This system...
